The primary reason for running a business is to generate a return on the investment put into the business. Most businesses usually operate effectively in their own marketplace or else they tend to diasppear, the equivalent of Darwin's 'only the fittest survive'. It is when businesses fail to adapt to the changing market that their weaknesses become apparent, and usually by the time they are addressed then the business is suffering and may not survive.

At Key Elements we believe that there are many influences that can affect performance, some of which are beyond normal managerial controls. There are however four key elements that do affect performance in a major way and they do fall within a businesses' control - they are People, Processes, Problems and Prevention.

2. Well effected monitoring of processes can prevent new problems and is commonly known as continuous improvement.
3. The old adage 'Prevention is better than cure' still holds true today when it comes to business problems.
4. It is important to use your people with the right skills for cross functional teamworking when solving problems.
