Facilitate - make easy, less difficult or more easily achieved; this is the definition from 'The Oxford Compact English Dictionary'. Just take a moment to visualise how football would be today if the referee was not independent. There would be some funny results and a lot of unhappy people, yet many SME's (Small Medium Enterprises) adopt this approach with project and teamwork. They use a manager or owner to run the meetings or project and then wonder why results are limited. Most of the facilitation we carry out is aimed at ensuring you get the best from projects and teamwork exercises. By using an external facilitator you are able to avoid scenarios where staff are less than co-operative because they interpret your actions as favoritism, or personally motivated. As an outsider it is easy for us to ask the questions that your staff may avoid because "Everyone knows the answer to that silly question." Another important aspect is that we will have asked for, and been provided with, a list of your goals and visions to ensure that all of the effort and energy contributed by your staff or project team is being channeled in the right direction. You would be amazed at the number of projects in SME's that deliver good results but actually failed to meet the original criteria. |
